Dental Checkups and Cleanings – Angier, NC

Stop Oral Health Problems Before They Start

Even though brushing and flossing every day goes a long way in preventing issues like cavities and gum disease, it’s unfortunately not enough to keep them completely at bay. To fully stop oral health problems before they start, you’ll need to see your dentist at least twice a year for regular checkups and cleanings. Dr. Brenda Gong is more than happy to see you for these biannual appointments and keep your smile in good shape.

What You Can Expect During Your Checkup and Cleaning

She’ll examine every one of your teeth, existing dental work, and gums for problems like cavities and gum disease. In addition, she’ll take digital x-rays to check for issues like decay between the teeth. Afterward, she’ll share her findings with you and, if needed, develop a customized treatment plan to get your smile on the right track.

Next comes your dental cleaning. One of our skilled dental hygienists will use special tools to rid your mouth of built up plaque and tartar that, if left untreated, could result in gum disease and tooth decay. High levels of plaque have also been linked to general health problems like heart disease and diabetes, so that’s why these cleanings are important. The hygienist will also polish your teeth, removing minor stains and leaving your smile shining a little brighter.

How Often Will You Need a Checkup?

  • Tobacco use
  • Cancer treatment
  • Pregnancy, which increases the risk of gum disease
  • Certain health conditions that compromise your immune system, such as diabetes or HIV/AIDS

At your next checkup, Dr. Gong can evaluate your overall health to determine about how many times a year she’d recommend you get your teeth checked and cleaned.

Why Brushing and Flossing Alone Aren’t Enough

There are areas of your mouth that your toothbrush and floss simply can’t reach, which is where regular dental cleanings come in. Your back teeth in particular are vulnerable to decay since they contain pits and grooves in which bits of food can get trapped and attract bacteria. Our dental hygienists can remove plaque from these areas. Dr. Gong can then give you advice on how to improve your oral hygiene regimen at home.

Can Regular Checkups Save You Money?

What might start out as a small cavity can quickly snowball into the need for a root canal or even a tooth extraction. Both of these procedures can be costly, and missing teeth can lead to several oral health problems down the line. We can both clean your teeth and evaluate your mouth for any small problems while they’re still easily treatable and don’t cost you very much at all out-of-pocket.
