Sedation Dentistry in Angier
Many people feel nervous, agitated, or even outright terrified when faced with an upcoming dental appointment. At Accent Family Dentistry, we do our best to help you feel comfortable and calm throughout treatment, but Dr. Brenda Gong and the rest of our staff understands that sometimes, a little extra help is needed. With sedation dentistry, patients from Fuquay Varina, Sanford, Selma, Benson, and the surrounding areas can experience genuine relaxation as their smile’s health and beauty are improved here in Angier. Nitrous oxide (also known as “laughing gas”) is administered through a mask that fits over the patient’s nose during their treatment, and it should start to induce feelings of calmness, relaxation, and even happiness within minutes. Depending on your needs, Dr. Gong may recommend using nitrous oxide as a stand-alone sedation method or combining it with IV sedation for a greater effect. This technique’s biggest benefit is the fact that it wears off quickly, allowing patients to return to their daily routines right away.
Conscious IV Sedation
IV sedation is recommended for patients who struggle with severe dental anxiety and/or are in need of lengthy, complex procedures. The medication is administered intravenously, which allows our team to control the dosage and ensure complete comfort. While patients will remain conscious and able to respond to simple commands, they will enter such a deep state of relaxation that they’re likely to not remember their appointment once it’s completed. If you choose to undergo IV sedation at Accent Family Dentistry, you will need an escort to take you home following your procedure and keep an eye on you until the sedative wears off.
