Cost of Dental Emergencies

It’s normal to be concerned about the cost of an emergency visit, but you don’t have anything to fear. We’ll provide you with a custom estimate during your consultation and discuss your payment options, like using your dental insurance. We will work with you to find the solutions you need to treat your tooth without draining your wallet.

Dental Emergency Frequently Asked Questions

At Accent Family Dentistry, we want you to be as well-informed about your oral health as possible. We understand that dental emergencies are not always preventable, and that they can be terrifying when they strike. You might be confused and have lots of questions. Not to worry – we have gathered some of the dental emergency questions we get asked the most often and answered them for your convenience.

When Should I Go to the E.R. vs the Dentist?

If your dental emergency is also life-threatening, then definitely go to your local hospital’s emergency room instead of your dentist’s office. Go to the E.R. if you have problems like:

  • Deep cuts
  • Swelling that hinders your breathing
  • Jaw fractures
  • Dislocated jaw
  • Serious abscess or infection

These issues require an immediate visit to the hospital. For any other dental emergency, or an infection that doesn’t affect your ability to breathe, come visit us at Accent Family Dentistry right away.

Will I Need a Root Canal?

A root canal is actually one of the most common treatments for toothaches. It’s needed whenever decay, infection, or injury reaches the inner portion of the tooth, known as the pulp, where nerves and blood vessels are housed. If we determine that root canal therapy is necessary, we will remove the nerve from the tooth so that you feel no more pain. It’s difficult to know whether your toothache will need root canal treatment without your coming in to have us evaluate your individual case.

How Long Should I Wait to Receive Emergency Treatment?

Ideally, you should call us immediately when you have a dental situation like a toothache or a broken tooth. Especially when you have a dislodged tooth, time is of the essence, as you have an hour at most to get here to ensure a successful reimplantation of the tooth.

Unlike other medical conditions, which often get better with time, dental problems only worsen the long you leave them alone. Additionally, most dental emergencies have pain associated with them, which is why you’re going to want to seek treatment immediately, so we can alleviate your discomfort. Give us a call the moment you have an urgent dental situation and our helpful team will set up an appointment for you as soon as possible.

Will My Insurance Cover Dental Emergencies?

It’s nearly impossible to estimate your coverage without first coming in for an evaluation, because there are so many different types of emergencies as well as different types of insurance plans. It’s also possible that your insurance will cover part of your plan while not covering it fully. For example, most insurance plans cover the majority of minor restorative treatments like fillings, while covering smaller portions of major restorations like dental implants to replace knocked-out teeth. No matter what your emergency is, our friendly team can help you maximize your insurance benefits and minimize your out-of-pocket costs.
