Lumineers
When you pose for a picture, are you in the habit of smiling with your mouth closed because you’re self-conscious about the cosmetic imperfections in your teeth? If so, you might be able to benefit from a treatment known as Lumineers. These custom restorations can correct virtually any aesthetic flaw that might lie within your smile. Let’s take a closer look at Lumineers and how Dr. B. Brenda Gong can use them to help you achieve a smile fit for the silver screen.
What Are Lumineers?
Lumineers are ultra-thin, durable ceramic shells that are bonded to the front surfaces of your problem teeth. You can think of them like “masks” that conceal cosmetic dental flaws. Each Lumineer is custom fitted to your exact specifications, making it look like a completely natural part of your smile. Unlike traditional porcelain veneers, your natural teeth don’t need to be prepped to permanently place Lumineers. They’re bonded to your pearly whites to give them a perfectly straight, white, and even appearance.
What Is the Process of Getting Lumineers?
First, Dr. Gong will sit down with you for an initial consultation to discuss your options and your candidacy for Lumineers. Once you and she decide that Lumineers are the right choice for your smile, we can begin the treatment process. We first take impressions of your teeth to craft a mold that we’ll send to a trusted dental laboratory. A team of professional ceramists will create your restorations to our exact specifications.
Your second appointment will be a few weeks later, when your Lumineers are ready. We’ll permanently bond them to your affected teeth by lightly etching your teeth to help the Lumineers better adhere to the enamel. This part of the process is virtually painless and quick. You shouldn’t need any local anesthesia. The majority of patients are able to resume their daily lives right after their appointment without any residual discomfort.
What Are the Benefits of Lumineers?
The main advantage of Lumineers is that they can correct a wide variety of problems in your teeth (such as chips, cracks, stains, gaps, or generally misshapen teeth) without having to remove any enamel like conventional porcelain veneers. Not only is the procedure virtually painless, but it’s less likely to result in tooth sensitivity since no enamel has to be shaved off. Lumineers also generally cost a little less than traditional veneers do. Lastly, if you properly care for your Lumineers, with proper oral hygiene and regular checkups and cleanings, they can last up to 20 years.
