Wisdom Teeth Extractions in Angier, NC
Impacted or problematic wisdom teeth can cause pain, crowding, and infection. Dr. Brenda Gong provides safe, comfortable wisdom tooth removal to protect your oral health and prevent future complications.
Protecting Your Smile from Problematic Wisdom Teeth
Wisdom teeth — the third molars at the back of your mouth — typically emerge between ages 17 and 25. Most people do not have enough room in their jaw for these teeth to erupt properly, which can lead to impaction, crowding, pain, and infection.
Dr. Brenda Gong monitors wisdom tooth development with regular X-rays and recommends removal when teeth are impacted, growing at an angle, or causing problems with adjacent teeth. Early removal — ideally in the late teens or early twenties — is associated with faster recovery and fewer complications.
We serve patients from Angier, Fuquay-Varina, Apex, Lillington, Holly Springs, Willow Spring, Coats, and Benson, NC.
Signs Your Wisdom Teeth May Need Removal
Common signs that wisdom teeth may need to be removed include pain or pressure at the back of the jaw, swelling or tenderness around the gum tissue behind the last molar, difficulty opening your mouth, bad breath or a bad taste that does not resolve with brushing, and crowding of the front teeth. Even if you are not experiencing symptoms, impacted wisdom teeth can cause silent damage to adjacent teeth and bone over time. Regular X-rays allow Dr. Gong to monitor their position and recommend removal at the optimal time.
What to Expect During and After the Procedure
Wisdom tooth removal is performed under local anesthesia, with sedation available. Depending on the position and depth of the tooth, the procedure may be a simple or surgical extraction. After the procedure, you will receive detailed aftercare instructions: bite on gauze to control bleeding, avoid straws and smoking for at least 48–72 hours, eat soft foods, and keep the area clean. Most patients return to normal activities within a few days. Dr. Gong will schedule a follow-up visit to confirm proper healing.
